Are Cochlear Implants For Me?

"How do I know if I qualify for a cochlear implant?" Well, here are a few questions to help you get started:

1. Do you find yourself having a lot of difficulty understanding, even with your hearing aids on?

2. Do you have difficulty understanding when you cannot see someone's face?

3. Do you feel like your hearing, even while wearing hearing aids, is affecting your quality of life?

If you answered YES to any of the above questions, you may be a candidate for cochlear implants. But, how do you know for sure? The first step is to get scheduled with an audiologist who specializes in cochlear implant evaluations. Similar to a comprehensive hearing test, a cochlear implant evaluation involves a series of tests aimed to assess your ability to process speech in quiet and noisy situations, while wearing your hearing aids. If hearing aids are providing good benefit, then cochlear implant surgery would not be recommended. We want to do all that we can to maximize your benefit with hearing aids before pursuing a surgical option. However, hearing aids may not be the best solution for you. That is when evaluation for a cochlear implant is the recommended next step. Do you still struggle to understand speech significantly while wearing your hearing aids? Give us a call or send us a text or email today to schedule an appointment for a cochlear implant evaluation. The full evaluation may take several appointments.
